About the Doctor
Robert N. Borkowski, D.D.S., M.S., P.A.
Dr. Robert N. “Bob” Borkowski practiced in Maryland, and taught orthodontics at Georgetown University for over 20 years before coming to Texas in 1997. Dr. Borkowski is Board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics, which is the only board recognized by the American Dental Association for certification for orthodontists. Less than one-fifth of all orthodontists claim this honor.
In 1982, Dr. Borkowski and a number of orthodontists were instrumental in the development of lingual braces, braces behind the teeth.
In the mid 1990’s, Dr. Borkowski and a select group of colleagues nationwide were approached prior to public introduction of a new and different alternative of traditional braces. They were asked to become test sites for clinical trials of what is now called “Invisalign®,” which is a series of clear plastic aligners worn that gradually change the teeth's position. Henceforth, Dr. Borkowski is an “Invisalign® Certified Specialist.”
Dr. Borkowski has often been requested to travel worldwide to lecture on the newest and most revolutionary developments in orthodontics as widely diverse as Temporomandibular Dysfunction, Lingual appliances, Herbst and Twin Block appliances, electromyography and numerous other topics coincident to progressive orthodontic techniques. He is currently focusing on bony response to the use of ultra low, TRULY LIGHT CONTINUOUS FORCES, specifically with the passive SELF-LIGATING Damon system, a topic that grew out of research done in preparation of his master’s thesis on Root Resorption. In addition to his years of teaching at Georgetown, his continued involvement in research and developments of the Damon System has brought him to lecture extensively in the United States, and dozens of countries in Asia, Europe and Latin America.
Dr. Borkowski has served as president of the Southern Maryland Dental Study Club and the Georgetown Orthodontic Alumni Foundation. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, Dallas County Dental Society, American Association of Orthodontists, Southwestern Society of Orthodontists, and the College of Diplomats of the American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Borkowski currently practices in Plano where he lives with his wife, Sherri, and their son, Christian. Having previously been involved in a large number of state, regional, national and even international organizations, he has actively become part of the Dallas community. A lifelong avid sportsman, his current hobbies are golf, motorcycles, reading and travel.
